New York’s senior Senator Chuck Schumer took to Twitter to address the need for cannabis legalization. He is one of many New York politicians in favor of making cannabis legal for recreational use in New York State and the large nation as a whole. Schumer’s Marijuana Freedom and Opportunity Act is a critical step towards legalization. This new legislation aims to deschedule Marijuana at the Federal Level and has additional provisions which address the importance of research regarding the effects of THC and making the Cannabis Industry more accessible for women and minorities, while providing incentives for states to expunge many cannabis convictions.

In April of this year, the Senator publicly announced his support for the decriminalization of cannabis. Working alongside Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, a Democrat from New York, Schumer aims to reintroduce his bill in order to address issues of injustice.
