Today, New York’s (new) decriminalization laws go into effect. This new law reduces unlawful possession, while increasing the amount one can carry. This law will also help to expunge and or seal some 200,000 cases. Though, this was not the full legalization that many wanted, this can be seen as being a step in the right direction.
Below are some of the highlights of New York’s 2019 Decriminalization law.
- Unlawful marijuana possession & class B misdemeanor marijuana possession convictions to be automatically expunged
- 1 – 2 ounces = $200 fine
- Under 1 ounce = $50 fine
