Floating Battery Brings Clean Power to Amsterdam City & Port

A floating battery will be providing Amsterdam with energy to power activities throughout the summer. Project Amsterdam, a collaborative effort from Skoon Energy and the Port of Amsterdam aims to provide the city with a clean and mobile source of energy as part of a plan to reduce pollution and emissions and to balance the area’s energy table. The battery set sail in early March of 2020 and is powered by local, renewable energy sources. It will power local cruise vessels and city functions including construction and events as it travels the canals on its barge throughout the Spring and Summer.

An example battery can be seen near the headquarters of the Port of Amsterdam near Centraal Station in Amsterdam, where visitors can learn more about the initiative and how battery sharing is making green energy more accessible.
